Heidelberg
Beautiful location in the romantic Neckar valley, situated directly on the river! The ideal starting point for a stroll in Heidelberg and its lovely surroundings.

Heidelberg

From the famous Philosophenweg on top of the Heiligenberg, you can admire the beauiful sight of the city of Heidelberg beneath. The Neckar river stretches majestically toward the Rhine valley to the right and toward the steep foothills of the Odenwald to the left. Across the river you see the renowned Heidelberg castle as well as the adjoining Königstuhl and can´t help unterstanding why the romantic beauty of the city, along with the reputation of the oldest university in Germany, have always exerted such a distinct attraction on the most excellent minds. In the narrow lanes of the old city, including the Hauptstrasse, (the famous Heidelberg shopping street) students provide the essetial ingredient of the local scene.
The near village of Neckargemünd, with its picturesque framework houses, invites you to a leisurely walk. From the camp site you´ll enjoy the lovely panorama of the adjourning city of Neckargemünd and the medieval citadel of Dilsberg. A trip along the four castles of Neckarsteinach, of which the first one is an ancient stronghold of robber-knights, is generally considered to be rewarding. In summer the four castles are illuminated by fireworks. Several times per year legendary fireworks are displayed at the Heidelberg Old Bridge in memory of the destruction of the Heidelberg castle and offer breathtaking aspects of unworldly beauty to an increasing community of foreign spectators. Almost equally renowned and reputed is the annual celebration taking place at the park of the Schwetzingen castle, the summer residence of the Palatin electors.
